Bacon Wrapped Dates – Devils on Horseback

Bacon Wrapped Dates – Devils on Horseback

Sticky, sweet, salty and crispy, these bacon wrapped dates are a flavour overload!  However, they’re so easy to make and there’s only two ingredients, the bacon and the dates!  This makes them perfect appetisers if you follow the SCD or a Paleo diet.  Along with my Grain Free Blinis or my Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus, they’re the perfect start to a dinner party.  Pair them with cocktails or champagne for a decadent start to the evening.Devils on Horseback (Bacon Wrapped Dates) by Emma Eats & Explores - Grainfree, Glutenfree, Dairyfree, SCD, Paleo, Whole30 & Low Carb

Preheat the oven to 180C (350F).  Start by slicing each rasher of bacon in half, lengthways.  Next up is to make sure you take all the stones out of the dates if they aren’t already removed.  You don’t want one of your guests chipping a tooth on your delicious canapés.  Wrap each of the dates in the strip of bacon.  Round and round until you have used the entire length of the bacon.

Place on a baking tray with the loose end of the bacon tucked underneath.  This should ensure that it doesn’t unravel as it cooks.  You can always secure it with a toothpick too if you prefer but I’ve found it isn’t really necessary.

Bake in the oven for about 10-15 mins until the bacon has crisped up.  Flip them once during this time to ensure both sides can crisp up.  Devils on Horseback (Bacon Wrapped Dates) by Emma Eats & Explores - Grainfree, Glutenfree, Dairyfree, SCD, Paleo, Whole30 & Low Carb

Allow to cool slightly before serving as the dates will be incredibly hot.

There are so many different ways to serve these.  I just love the combination of the salty bacon and the sweet dates so I’m happy with them just as they are.  If you wanted to do something a bit different, you could even stuff the dates before wrapping them.  A bit of goat’s cheese or maybe an almond would go really well?  Or what about serving them with a dip?  Honey & Mustard or something cool like a flavoured yoghurt to balance the sweetness.Devils on Horseback (Bacon Wrapped Dates) by Emma Eats & Explores - Grainfree, Glutenfree, Dairyfree, SCD, Paleo, Whole30 & Low Carb
