Royal Savoy Hotel, Lausanne, Switzerland
Recently, I spent a beautiful Foodie weekend in Lausanne, Switzerland to experience everything that the area has to offer. I visited ‘Les Caves Ouvertes‘ (a wine tasting festival) and sampled many of the local wines. We tried many restaurants, food fairs and generally ate and drank our way around Lausanne. Our base for the weekend was the beautiful Royal Savoy Hotel. Situated a couple of streets back from the Lake, it is within easy access of both Lake Geneva and Lausanne Old Town.
The hotel looks opulent and elegant from the outside, but the welcome at reception is so friendly. The whole hotel felt light and airy and check-in was a breeze. I was shown to my room which was beautiful. I had been given a Premium Room which had a small balcony that overlooked the Lake. I loved sitting on my balcony in the morning with a cup of coffee looking out at the view. The little touches like the Hermés bath products made the room feel even more luxurious.
One afternoon we visited the Health Spa which is in a different building in the garden of the Royal Savoy Hotel. They offer a complete Beauty Treatment menu from massages to facials etc. There is also an indoor pool and spa pool, along with steam rooms and sauna.
As the weather was so beautiful I spent some time in the beautiful outdoor pool relaxing in the sunshine.
There’s also a fully equipped gym, but that weekend, wandering around Lausanne was enough exercise for me! If you’ve ever been you’ll know what I mean. The whole town is built on an incredibly steep hill!
The hotel has beautiful gardens and there are plenty of spots to take a secluded break to read a book or have a coffee. If relaxing with a cocktail is more your thing then there are two main bars at the Royal Savoy Hotel. The first is the lounge bar on the ground floor. This is light during the day thanks to the huge windows which overlook the terrace, but cosy in the evenings. It feels like a smoking lounge atmosphere with plush fabrics, incredible chandeliers and a fabulous picture wall.
The second bar at the Royal Savoy Hotel is the Sky Lounge on the very top floor. What a view! From one side you can see out over the Lake and from the other, you can see the whole of Lausanne. It really is an amazing place to relax and enjoy a cocktail before dinner. If you want dinner there though, make sure you book in advance. It’s open to outside guests, not just residents of the hotel, and due to the stunning location, it gets booked up pretty quickly!
I didn’t get the chance to eat dinner at the Royal Savoy Hotel, but breakfast every morning was absolutely delicious. The breakfast buffet literally consists of everything you could ever want. From continental style meats, cheese and smoked salmon to bread and pastries, there is something for everyone. All the usual hot options are also available of course. You can have a full English or an omelette or pancakes, whatever takes your fancy. The fruit and yoghurt bar had so many options and there were so many different cereals and muesli to try. You can sit in the beautiful dining room or do what I did and take you breakfast out onto the terrace.
And to get to the dining room you have to walk through the incredible wine corridor! How fabulous! I wish I’d had the chance to sample some of it!
My stay at the Royal Savoy Hotel was definitely a relaxing one. The staff accommodated my every need and I felt very welcome during my trip. This hotel is definitely one I would recommend and if you are going to Lausanne I would urge you to take a look at the website. I’m hoping to return to visit the Caves Ouvertes again next year and will definitely be making the Royal Savoy Hotel my base for the weekend!
